Coconut Oil – A Simple Way To Boost Our Immune System

I have long recommended coconut oil to our practice members, especially those participating in our Body N Balance Program, for years due to all of its wellness and health benefits, which I highlight below, but for now, I want to give you a very brief version of why Coconut Oil is so great for immune boosting.

Specifically in this time of viral fighting, Coconut oil will boost a weakened immune system by increasing the white blood cell counts in our body and help our body to directly fight viruses. This will happen based on Coconut oil containing two powerful ingredients that are phenomenal immune system boosters!

These are lauric acid and caprylic acid, both of which have anti-viral properties.

Both lauric acid and caprylic acid have also been shown to fight off bacterial infections and yeast infections as well (Please Note: avoid refined coconut oils, and go with Non-GMO, extra-virgin, organic coconut oil to get the best quality).

To get these immune boosting benefits coconut oil, which is comprised of 50%  lauric acid, our body will innately convert the laric acid in coconut oil to monolaurin, a powerful agent that acts as a antiviral agent that will then create a hostile environment to  help our body fight off numerous viruses and pathogens, such as:

 

  • Staphylococcus aureus

  • Herpes

  • Influenza

  • Cytomegalovirus

  • HIV

  • Listeria Monocytogenes

  • Candida albicans

  • Helicobacter Pylori (H-Pylori)

  • Giardia Lamblia

  • Fungal Infections like Athlete’s Foot and Ringworm applied topically

  • Coconut Oil combined with Anise Essential Oil and applied to the scalp has been shown to kill head lice

And even though coconut oil is certainly not a panacea or cure for any specific disease condition, coconut oil has been shown in the literature to carry tremendous immune boosting benefits as well as health and wellness promoting qualities.

And in terms of daily dosage, I suggest 1 teaspoon to 1 Tablespoon per day added to your morning coffee or tea or to cook with.  Additionally, you can also apply coconut oil to your skin and mix in various essential oils for added benefit if you want…..as the skin is our body’s largest organ and whatever goes on the skin goes in!
