What Could Be Causing My Hip Pain?
Hip pain can occur anywhere in and or around the ball-and-socket joint of your hip. The location of your pain, whether at the front, back or side, can provide helpful insight about which anatomical structures are involved. The type of pain is also helpful for our clinical team to determine where the pain is coming from. Many cases of hip pain are related to wear-and-tear or poor biomechanics of the joint or other related joints of the pelvis or lower extremities. Trauma such as car accidents, bike accidents, sports injuries and slips and falls call also be sources of hip pain. These injuries or traumas are often untreated initially or just treated with OTC or pharmaceutical drugs and the underlying issue progresses and leads to chronic inflammation and arthritis of the hip joint
To summarize, hip pain may come directly from the hip joint, directly from the soft tissues surrounding the joint, a combination of both the joint and soft tissues or even biomechanical stressors in the low back, pelvis, lower extremities and feet.
Here are some of the common causes of hip pain:
- Osteoarthritis of the Hip Joint
- Anatomical Leg Length Inequality
- SacroIliac Joint Dysfunction
- Low Back Osteoarthritis
- Hip Flexor Strain or Tightness
- Weak Gluteal Muscles
- Piriformis syndrome
- Tendonitis
- Bursitis
- Acetabular Labral Tears
- IT Band Syndrome
- OA of the Knee(s) Joint
- Poor Foot Biomechanics (Pronation/Supination)
- Slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE)
- Iliotibial (IT) band tendinitis
- Hip Impingement
Some of these conditions that cause hip pain are more common than others depending on the individual and their past history. Our expert medical team will do a thorough consultation, history and evaluation to determine the cause of your hip pain.
