Shinrin-Yoku – A Simple Way To Boost Our Immune System

What is Shinrin Yoku?

Shinrin-Yoku is a Japanese term – ‘Shinrin’ means forest and “Yoku” means bath.- and so the English translation is ‘Forest Bathing’.

‘Forest Bathing’ or immersing yourself under the canopy of trees and/or walking in the forest to soak in the atmosphere through the senses is an extremely simple way for us to boost our immune system and overall health!

Don’t believe me?

‘Forest Bathing’ is not a new concept and there is plenty of research to support this immune and health boosting practice….in other words, this isn’t some “new age, hippieish, tree hugging, sandal wearing’ philosophy.

As a matter of fact, in 1982 the Japanese Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries instituted a national forest bathing program and has since designated a number of regional forest bathing reserves, making ‘Shinrin-Yoku’ in Japan a major preventive health care and healing method in Japanese medicine according to Dr. Qing Li – check out his book here

With practically 40 years of research, ‘forest bathing’ is showing a wide range of health benefits including:

  • decreased stress
  • improved mood states
  • numerous mental health benefits
  • improved energy and vitality
  • reduced fatigue
  • feelings of gratitude and awe
  • See additional health benefits below with links to some studies

And so, without boring you today with more of my thoughts on this simple practice I have instead provided several links below for you to view videos, websites and research articles that will hopefully inspire and motivate you to get into nature if you aren’t already…..heck, we live in one of the most beautiful places on this planet…and many people in the world save up their money to come visit our beautiful state….so step back and realize how blessed we all are and take some time to get back into nature….your mind and body will thank you!
